The Blooming Grove Volunteer Ambulance Corps (BGVAC) Training Center will regularly offer American Heart Association courses at its bay. These classes are open to the general public, and emergency response personnel. The Ambulance Corps provides these classes at a nominal, affordable charge. All classes taught on-site at the ambulance bay are taught by volunteer instructors.
Students may provide their own face masks for those courses requiring face masks. If students do not bring a face mask to each session, they must purchase a face mask from the training center for $15.
All courses will be held at the Blooming Grove Volunteer Ambulance Corps bay at 7 North Street in Washingtonville (next to the Stewarts Ice Cream Shop).

AHA means the course is developed and administered through the American Heart Association. ASHI means the course is developed and administered through the American Safety and Health Institute.
CPR for Family and Friends (AHA)
Description:
The CPR for Friends and Family course targets all lay rescuers,
such as school children, family members of patients at risk
for sudden cardiac death, and other laypersons who want to learn
rescue skills for loved ones.
The course teaches rescue skills in CPR and relief of foreign-body
airway obstruction (FBAO). It presents information about the AHA
Chain of Survival and signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke,
and choking in adults. The text includes information about healthy living
and actions to reduce risk of cardiovascular disease in adults.
The course also presents information about the AHA pediatric Chain
of Survival, signs of choking in infants and children, prevention
of sudden infant death syndrome, and prevention of the most common
fatal injuries in infants and children. NO certification card is given
with this course.

BLS Heartsaver (AHA)
Description:
This entry-level course offers guidelines for one-rescuer adult,
child, and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
The
course includes information on first aid for choking. Other topics
covered are the Chain of Survival, normal heart and lung anatomy and
function, how to recognize a heart attack, stroke warning signs, and
recommendations for prudent heart living.
Class duration: 7 hours

HS First Aid (AHA)
Description:
The Heartsaver First Aid Course provides the skills to effectively assess
and maintain life from the critical minutes immediately following an emergency
until the arrival of emergency medical services personnel.
The course also provides corporations with a complete health and safety training solution for First Aid, CPR and AED.
The Heartsaver First Aid Course has been developed using the same
evidence-based process as all American Heart Association Emergency Cardiovascular Care courses.
Course Description
The Heartsaver First Aid Course teaches rescuers to effectively
recognize and treat adult emergencies in the critical first minutes until
emergency medical services personnel arrive.
The course also provides a complete health and safety training solution for first aid, adult CPR and AED.

Heartsaver CPR in Schools (AHA)
Description:
The Heartsaver CPR in Schools course is designed to teach both adult and
pediatric (infant/child) lay rescuer CPR to middle or high school students.

The manual includes information about healthy heart living and actions

Description:
The BLS Healthcare Provider course is designed to meet the needs of
healthcare professionals who respond to cardiac and respiratory
emergencies. The content of this course includes adult and pediatric
CPR, foreign-body airway obstruction, and two-rescuer CPR. The course
contains new information on barrier devices, stroke, and automated
external defibrillation, including a new algorithm for use of
automated external defibrillators.

Heartsaver AED (AHA)
Description:
Heartsaver AED, A Comprehensive Course for the First Responder, is designed
to teach CPR, use of an automated external defribrillator (AED), and
relief of foriegn-body airway obstruction (FBAO) to all lay rescuers,
particulary those who are expected to respond to emergencies in the workplace.
It is specifically designed for lay rescuers who are required to obtain
a course completion card (a credential) documenting completion of a CPR AED course.

Bloodborne Pathogens
Description:

Basic First Aid + Emergency Oxygen Administration (ASHI)
Description:
Properly applied first aid can

the victim. Program participants learn to recognize the signs and

We will provide course materials to each student at the beginning of the class. All students must pay the course enrollment fee by check at the start of the class. Cash or credit cards cannot be accepted for payment. Fees are not refundable unless the course is cancelled or postponed by the training center. If the course requires a mask, the student may supply their own or purchase one from the Training Center when they begin the class. Masks cost $10.
